Episode 4 – Sherlock’s Daughter – Out in the Cold – John Agnello
John Agnello, the featured producer in MastersFromTheirDay.com episode #4, is a legend in the indie/alt rock world. He has been one of the go-to producers and/or mixers for some of the biggest names in the genre, from The Breeders, Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth to Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, and the Drive By Truckers (see John’s discography to really understand how much ground he has covered: http://www.johnagnello.com/index.php?sitesection=discography). Stay tuned for a blog post about this session written by John himself!!
Sherlock’s Daughter (www.myspace.com/sherlocksdaughter) is one of Australia’s most promising new act – winning the 2009 Sydney Music Arts & Culture award for Next Big Thing. They’re sound, in this writer’s opinion, is a paradoxical mixture of comfort and apprehension, calm and chaos, tension and release. These days, they are traveling the world opening for global favorites such as The Antlers and Bears In Heaven.
Manhattan Center Studios is located in the Hammerstein Ballroom Complex on W 34th Street in Manhattan. It has one of the biggest control rooms in New York that transports it’s inhabitants to a rustic world with its stone and natural-wood interior.

This episode shows real passion. Such hard working artists, all of you! Love these episodes. This project is a winner!
You should let us download the videos too (no – I am not saying free)… The experience of watching the videos alongside the music is enthralling… Cant wait for the next episodes.. Do keep this up…
Cheers,
What’s a good idea or a good think!
What happened to this project? Is it still going?
Yes! We are currently shooting new episodes that will premier in late spring / early summer!
What a great series! Much appreciation to the artists, engineers, camera crews – everyone involved!! Thanks for bringing us along as you create some really great moments…
Please continue to let us discover new very talented artists in high res!
If you would edit high res blu-ray with HD video synchronized with the songs, I would be your first buyer. I love to play and replay both music and video, but not easy so sync playback…
BTW, thank you all for your kind comments. We are doing our best to continue the project. Your encouragement means A LOT!! In fact, it is one of the main driving forces behind the effort to continue.
Thanks you so very much!!
We recorded this session at 48 kHz; therefore, the master is 48 kHz. Unlike some high-res music downloads, these are never ‘upsampled’. They are presented at their original recorded resolution.
We choose 48 kHz because it was suitable for a wider range of playback systems. However, your feedback indicates to us that perhaps we stick with 88 kHz recording, eh?
So far, I really like what you’re doing. I’ve burned the first 4 songs to a DVD, and they sound unbelievable through a good pair of speakers.
Elias,
I, too, am disappointed that this song is only available in 49Khz sampling rate.
Also, is there no way to convince these young artists that some of us would like to by their_entire_ albums in hi-res format, and not just one track?
I’m hoping that this project will show the artists and labels in the music industry that there is a lot of interest in high-resolution recordings. Your participation in this thread helps, and helping us spread the word about this project will also help.
Thanks so much!
“We recorded this session at 48 kHz; therefore, the master is 48 kHz. … We choose 48 kHz because it was suitable for a wider range of playback systems.”
What a strange, bizarre and irrelevant response. It’s as if you don’t understand any of the benefits of hires recording — even if CDs or MP3s are “all” anyone wound up listening to. Stunning, actually. No, embarassing.
What’s up with the High-Resolution files? only 48k/24bit? What happened to the 88k type files from the previous songs?
why have you lowered the resolution of the High Rez files. It was really nice to hear the impact of the recording and production decisions being highlighted in the videos. Anyway, great project and I hope it keeps going and going…
Keep these great episodes coming!
a great project with real nobility.
Amazing!! hope the project continues, all episodes have been incredible!
Great voice. Thank you.
good
Nice song, liked it. Enjoyed the video too!
Awesome… Can’t wait to see the next one.
